AIM (Art Is Moving) is a US-based non-profit organization with international reach. It promotes art and artistic practices as an integral and vital part of a healthy society. Founders and members of AIM believe that art is the natural and peaceful means of self-expression and self-healing. Lauren Odell Usher Sharpton and Lisa Rasmussen founded AIM to help spread their message and encourage everyone, not just established and beginner artists, to practice art. AIM proves that art develops stronger bonds within the community, as well as has an undoubtedly strong positive effect on human psyche.
“Art Is Moving” hosts an international Art Break Day event on the 6th of September, 2013. The event will unite 17 American cities and two more international locations, in Burkina Faso and India, in a colorful feast celebrating art, its contributors and audience. Attendance is free of charge, so is participation and distribution of your art samples.
This year, 19 cities around the world set up free access art sites for everyone to join. Artists, performers, visitors are invited to spend a day creating and distributing art for free. Berkeley, San Francisco, Stockton, Portland, Austin and other big cities will unite on this day to advocate the accessibility of art to everyone. Visitors are welcome to join the wave of creativity, fun and self-exploration. Check out the full list of participating cities on the project's page.
Along with this, Art In Movement features a comprehensive web resource welcoming artists to join the online community. Besides buzzing art blog, where you can share and comment on everything art related, AIM has developed several programs to promote art and artists. “I Am An Artist ” program offers artists an unprecedented opportunity to be heard and seen. Within the framework of this program, members and volunteers of AIM interview modern artists and create a video or photo collection of their works. The interviews and images are posted on the blog, encouraging a dialogue between artists and audience as an integral appreciating and grateful part of art.
AIM also offers the Artist in Residence program for individual artists to apply and host their own Art Break Day in their local communities. Since 2009, the year the first Art Break Day took place, the list of successful applicants has been growing exponentially, proving the organization's message resonates with international community. AIM is creative by nature and keeps coming up with new ideas to help people interact and engage in art.
