Description | On Saturday May 23, LAHAF, Inc in association with Global Block Alaska is hosting the first “All Tribes Hip Hop Cultural Heritage Summitâ€, in Anchorage, Alaska. The summit will offer a unique opportunity for Alaskan youth to understand and experience the cultural heritage and creative traditions of Hip Hop while discovering new ways to express their own cultural heritages. The inaugural 1 day summit will run between 9am and 5pm and host between 100-200 participants and be held at the Begich Middle School. Programming will consist of morning lectures/ discussions, afternoon creative breakout workshops, an evening concert, public art, giveaways and more. It will be led by up to 3 internationally renowned cultural bearers/ master artists with the support of local artists/culture bearers. Hip Hop as a tool for youth engagement has a successful history in Alaska, providing creative opportunities and inspiration to many from the city to the bush. Participants will gain greater cross-cultural understanding, increased self-awareness and be inspired to explore new ways of expressing their own cultural heritages while valuing others. The "All Tribes Hip Hop Cultural Heritage Summit" is made possible through a mini-grant by Rasmuson Foundation through the Youth Cultural Heritage Fund, which is administered, under contract, by the Alaska State Council on the Arts.
