The exhibition will be on view until January 20\, 2018.\nBio:Mark Clark/ American/ b. May 26\, 1948 Honolulu\, Hawaii. \nAttended Merritt College\, Oakland\, CA\,.Corcoran School of Art\, Washington DC\, Ohio University\, Athens\, Ohio. Employed at Corcoran Gallery of Art\, New Orleans Museum of Fine Art\, National Air and Space Museum\, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\,National Museum of the American Indian. Exhibited at museums\, Universities\, alternative spaces and commercial galleries in the US and Mexico.\n\nArtist Statement:\nI started out as a photorealist\, and drifted through trompe l'oeil still life painting and appropriation art prior to moving to the Rio Grande Valley. When I moved to Brownsville I was looking to create a new style based on the binational fronterizo culture. I first worked in a manner that was a combination of tattoo flash and Tejano prison art\, using strong outline and gradations of brilliant color. Eventually I discovered a way to use a style based on indigenous Mexica or Aztec\, and Mixteca codices and the straight from the tube hues of the Washington Color School of abstract color field painting. The local preference for Spanish art and the adoration of Picasso Miro and Dali over indigenous Mexican art made this seem like swimming against the prevailing current.\nFor more information please contact Beyond Arts Gallery. 114 N.
