Reservations are recommended and can be made at: http://sanjosemayorparksforum.eventbrite... “The City of San Jose faces tremendous urban growth in coming decades,†said Helen Chapman, Vice President for San José Parks Advocates, “While the need for urban parks and recreation opportunities in our neighborhoods is growing, the cost of parkland is becoming prohibitively expensive. This is just one of many challenges we face as we strive to ensure equal access to the many benefits that urban parks provide our residents. San José Parks Advocates is hosting this forum to allow candidates to share their solutions to these challenges and their vision for the future of public parks in the City of San José.†Mercury News Editorial Page Editor Barbara Marshman will moderate the session and ensure that no one skateboards around the critical issues of funding, land acquisition, park staffing, maintenance, and equity with regard to access to public parks in underserved areas. Ms. Marshman will also pitch both hardball and softball questions from the audience, as time permits. Santa Clara County Supervisor David Cortese and San Jose City Councilmembers Sam Liccardo, Madison Nguyen, Rose Herrera and Pierluigi Oliverio have confirmed their participation in the forum. The public is cordially invited to attend this forum and ultimately will decide which of the candidates hits the ball out of the park. |
